April CQ Class, Dyeing Lace

April Crazy quilt Class with Kathy Shaw has been so much fun.   This time our class is on an adventure in dyeing, and the medium is acrylic paint and rubbing alcohol ~ how much fun is that :)

So I put paint in little cups

Added the rubbing alcohol and stirred

Separated the liquid from the sludge, and now ready to paint Lace.

I then painted the carousel horses and this cotton cording.

Here is a closeup of some of the horses as I was playing with different colors as I thinned out the colors further

  1. Hi Mary, Your horses look wonderful! I like your cord too. My lace painting didn't go so well, so I dipped the entire pieces to get one solid color. I want to try it again because I really like the look of multi-colored lace. Dawn

    1. Thank you for the encouraging words Dawn. Eventually I got the paint thin enough to color the lace without sitting on top of the surface or filling up the little spaces in the lace. At first it was hard for me to figure out which colors of paint to use to get the soft look not harsh on the eyes, and at the end of the day was enjoying mixing the colors together for more painting. I think it would have been easier had I done flowers, as they come in so many more colors. Will do this again sometime as I learned so much my first time dyeing lace. Thanks again for your words of encouragement. Mary
